The Essential option covers you to 100% of the medical aid rate in hospital but the Classic option cover you at 200% of the medical aid rate whilst in hospital.
Then you will need to cover your medical aid bills at your own cost, that is why it is essential to choose the right plan.
After your savings run out, there is a Gap amount that is paid by members, then once you have claimed to the value of your threshold, then a member would be covered to the medical aid rates from their Threshold until then end of the year.
You can downgrade your plan during the year but only at the end of the year are you allowed to upgrade your plan for the 1st of January.
